Fashion Publication/Lookbook
BEHIND THE PROJECT
This project incorporates source material and other research findings from over 30 years ago and more modern media to create a lookbook that spans different eras and has aesthetics, chronology, taste, and order in mind.
Amidst my research for this lookbook, I found myself in aisle 12B on the fourth and final floor of a library in Chicago. Older books on design, ranging from fashion to Japanese graffiti, flooded this aisle.
The first book I pulled from the shelf was a bright orange hardcover Chanel book dated 1987. I flipped through the pages and immersed myself in the whimsical world of couture. The concept of haute couture piqued my interest and tied it with my fascination with the Met Gala. With that event so fresh in my mind and the books I discovered, I was inspired by all the fashion swirling around me.
In the second book I looked at, A Fashion for Extravagance, I was drawn to the layout and order within the publication’s design. Many spreads from one section were organized by color scheme, inspiring this project.
